Grey Cup Party!

By David F. Rooney

The Knights of Columbus staged their traditional Grey Cup party at the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Centre Sunday, to the delight of mature local football fans.

The event regularly brings together dozens of CFL fans to watch the big game, quaff a few beers and then chow down on the excellent food on offer. This year it was spaghetti and meatballs and roast beef whipped by Chefs Paul Suraci, John Bafaro and Derek Burghart.

The annual event is also a fundraiser for the Community Connections Food Bank with a portion of the proceeds from its various draws, dinner tickets and cash bar going to the social service agency.

Here are a couple of photos from the event:

Spence Carefoot smiles for the camera after winning a price in one of the half-time draws at the Knights of Columbus' traditional Grey Cup party and dinner at the Saint Francis of Assisi Parish Centre late Sunday afternoon. The annual gathering is a good time for all who attend and also is a money-maker for the Community Connections Food Bank as it receives a portion of the proceeds from the draws, dinner and cash bar. Derek Burghart is the picture of innocence (above, center) as his fingers pop up as rabbit ears above the head of Chef Paul Suraci, much to the amusement of fellow Chef John Bafaro. Of course such disrespect deserves some come-back as Suraci retaliates with gentle pinch in the side (bottom). All kidding aside, the three men whipped up a tasty supper of spaghetti and meatballs and roast beef for the annual Grey Cup party. David F. Rooney photo
