Summer may have been quiet but the Community Foundation remained active

Steven Hui

We hope everyone had a healthy and happy summer. I know of a number of school and family reunions that occurred and it seemed like everyone was enjoying the good weather and ambience of our great community.  The Foundation would like to welcome Randy Driediger to the board. Randy  is the Revelstoke Credit Union appointee and is replacing Pat McKee. We would like to thank Pat for her  contribution  through her term.

Typically the Foundation is quiet in the summer months but there are ongoing annual events in which we participate. At the June graduation ceremony  at  Revelstoke High School a total of $13,700 in bursaries and scholarships were provided to graduates from monies invested in the Foundation’s scholarship endowment. In addition there was a additional  $1,000  awarded to Eleanor Huettmeyer from the Selkirk Medical Scholarship  fund.  We congratulate all the successful recipients and wish you success in your studies and future endeavors.  The Revelstoke Annual Pro-Am golf tournament generated another $1500 donation. This donation pushed the Golf Club endowment to over $10,000. Thanks to John, Pam, the golf course staff and all the golfers who participated for their support, we are very appreciative to all of you.

This spring Southside Foodmart chose the Revelstoke Community Foundation as the recipients of the Community Rewards fundraiser. During the month of May the Foundation hosted two hot dog sales with food donated from Southside Foodmart  which netted $460. In addition a further  $1,042 donation was donated from sales of select items made in May.  Southside has asked that their donation be targeted towards children and youth programs and services. We thank Alan and Georgina Chin, owners/managers of Southside Foodmart  for choosing the Foundation this year and your very generous donation.

On a sad note, long-time resident and friend  to many of us, Joe Lenzi, passed away in August. The family asked the Foundation to receive donations in memory of Joe.  We extend our condolences to all the Lenzi family on the loss of a great man.  The Family Legacy program is a perfect way to provide permanent recognition of a family or loved one. These can be created and monies can be donated  at anytime. Please contact Debra or Geoff at our office at 250-837-5345 if you require further information.
