The Revelstoke Summer Cheapskate Guide

Joel Olson

It’s no secret, many people have faced job losses, reduced hours, and a general decrease in income. So, how do you better the Revelstoke economy and still finish this summer in the black? Here are a few great ideas:

Live Entertainment
It’s a Revelstoke pastime! Streetfest offers bands every night in the Grizzly Plaza for absolutely free! This is not to say that the bands slated on the schedule rivals your dad singing in the shower either. Streetfest offers talented entertainers that are sure to make you feel as if your getting something that must have a hidden cover charge. The music plays nightly from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and if you really want to splurge think about getting an ice cream, coffee, or tea from the local shops open right in the plaza.

Go camping in Revelstoke
If you don’t quite want to fork out the cash to load your family and your trailer up to visit the many Okanagan or Alberta campgrounds, consider spending the night at the surrounding area campgrounds in the Revelstoke area. The kids will still have a pool, and you’ll be just a short-car ride away should you need more marshmallows from your house for your roasting needs.

Dinner too expensive? Try a night of appies
Maybe going out for dinner is stretching your budget too thin, so why not think about inviting some friends out to many of the great local restaurants and pubs for appies and drinks? Your guaranteed to have just as much fun for a fraction of the cost.

Visit Revelstoke Attractions
If you visit the local visitors center you’ll be surprised to discover that tourist flock to many of our local and inexpensive attractions. Crazy Creek, Enchanted Forest, Revelstoke Museum, The Nickelodeon Museum, and the Railway Museum are just a few places to start.

Don’t let your lack of funds get you down. By being a little more frugal you can still have enjoyable activities for your family while jump-starting our local economy into a prosperous future.
