Help root out alien invaders!

Blue weed, spotted knapweed and other invasive plants won’t stand a chance if you come and join other local residents in a Community Weed Pull at the Illecillewaet Greenbelt on Wednesday.

“Come join us and help restore the native plant ecology in Revelstoke,” says a news release from the North Columbia Environmental Society. “Learn how to identify some of the invasive plants in our region and help us get rid of these nasty plant invaders.”

This event will take place on  July 7 from 9 am until 12 pm. Participants are encouraged to meet at Kovach Park (better known to some people as the Skate Board Park). And, besides your eagerness to uproot these alien invaders, bring an appetite.

“The CSRD will be providing a FREE lunch downtown for all participants involved! We will be leaving the Greenbelt after 12 for lunch downtown,” the statement said. “Gloves and plastic bags will be provided. Please wear appropriate clothing (i.e. closed-toe shoes, long pants). For more information, please see the NCES poster.
