The plight of Haitians so bothered Sally Kupp when she returned from the Caribbean country earlier this year after working as a volunteer in the the earthquake relief effort that she decided to start a community-based relief effort — the Revelstoke for Haiti Medical Relief team.

Now that team of six medical personnel — Kupp herself and nurses Carmen Holder, Kamla Adam, Andrea Townsend and Jennifer Schott and EMT Tho Thai — is raising money so they can go to Haiti for two weeks in November.

“Our first fundraiser is a Hoe Down For Haiti in the saloon at the Three Valley Gap Ghost Town this Friday,” Townsend said as she and Schott sold tickets to the event at Grizzly Plaza on Saturday. “We’ll have another one in town closer to the fall.”

Schott said people can also contribute directly to the relief team’s plans. You can purchase tickets or make a donation at PT Farm Market on Victoria Road .

The Hoe Down For Haiti will be held from 5 pm until midnight. A shuttle to and from Revelstoke is available (shuttle clients are encouraged to make a $2 per-person donation. If anyone decides to stay the night at the Three Valley Gap Chateau they will be granted a 20 per cent discount.

There will be a cash bar at the saloon and prizes for the best western costume.
