Summer Reading Club and Read to Me Club are ready for kids… have you signed up yet?

School vacation is fast approaching, and the Revelstoke Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library is gearing up for Summer Reading Club (SRC) to help ensure your school-aged children don’t fall victim to the “summer slide” by losing their literacy skills over the summer months.

Sponsored in partnership by the ORL, the BC Library Association and the Ministry of Education, this year’s Summer Reading Club theme is Reading Rocks with weekly bookdraws and special events. Students can visit the Revelstoke Branch at 605 Campbell Avenue beginning June 22 to register for programs and receive their reading record. Also, bilingual children’s musician Will Stroet will visit Revelstoke for a special high-energy Reading Rocks concert fun for the whole family on Tuesday, July 20, at 3:30 PM.

And — just in case you’re wondering — artist David F. Rooney will once again be donating an original painting based on the Summer Reading Club’s theme. The painting will be unveiled at the Revelstoke branch of the Okanagan Regional Library on Tuesday, June 29, at 1 pm. The painting will be won by some lucky Summer Reading Club member. Could it be you?

While school-aged children can enjoy the Summer Reading Club over July and August, the Revelstoke Branch of the Okanagan Regional Library wants to ensure that preschool children are not left out. So they have created a special “Read to Me” program especially for children aged 3 ½ to 5 years of age, accompanied by a guardian.

This free preschool club will run on Fridays from 10:30 AM – 11:30 AM from July 9 to 30 with a special theme featured each week. Registration for the Read to Me Club begins June 22 at the ORL’s Revelstoke Branch at 605 Campbell Avenue.

Children and families of all ages are invited to attend a performance by bilingual children’s musician Will Stroet, who will visit Revelstoke for a special high-energy “Reading Rocks” concert on Tuesday, July 20 at 3:30 PM.
