The Monashee Unit Crew launches their 4th annual Firefighters Hard Labour Auction fundraiser in Revelstoke.  Half of the funds raised at the silent auction will be donated to the Rick Hansen Foundation and the other half will be donated to a trust fund created for crew member Jeff Scott.  Jeff is currently in the spinal unit of the Vancouver General Hospital after a severe snowboarding accident on Revelstoke Mountain.

The Monashee Unit Crew will be holding their three-week community auction starting June 21. The crew, composed of 20 hardworking firefighters, will be auctioning off their labour for a full eight-hour day. From building a shed, to cleaning your house, this fit and motivated crew of men and women is willing to do just about anything to help spinal cord research.

The silent auction board will be placed in the Revelstoke Home Hardware (201 Campbell St). The auction will start on June 21 and close on July 16 at 5:00pm. The winner will be contacted by July 18 and the details for the labour will be arranged.

This project is a fundraising tradition for the firefighting crew, which in past years has raised over $10,000 for B.C.’s Children’s Hospital. When asked about last year’s event, Ashleigh Gulkiewich, Philanthropy Coordinator for B.C. Children’s Hospital Foundation said, “Whether it’s a result of a personal experience, a community need or a collective way to make a difference, we recognize the time and dedication required to organize a successful event and we applaud the Unit Crew’s effort – it is truly inspirational!

Wildland firefighters are known for working some of the world’s most gruelling days. From backbreaking labour during the Kelowna fires of 2003, to the blood, sweat and tears poured into the fires recently ablaze across the country, wildfire fighters have proven they work hard. Given this drive and determination to help, the Monashee Unit Crew is set upon donating their labour to support crewmember Jeff Scott and others suffering from spinal cord injuries.
