Course record broken at Grizzly Bear Run

And they’re off! Competitors in the Grizzly Bear Run hit the pavement at the start of the annual half-marathon on Sunday. Race organizer and well-known local runner Jarrett Spannier said there were 94 runners in the 12 km race and 36 runners in the 4 km fun run. Of the 94 in the 12km, 36 were from Revelstoke and of the 36 in the fun run, 26 from Revelstoke. The course record (42:10) was broken by Jakub Sumbera from Fairmount Hot Springs. The new course record is 41:45. The Top Local Male Racer in the 12k race was Rory Luxmoore with a time of 46:56. The Top Local Female was Ann-Marie Gill in 50:33. The Top Local in the fun run was Gordan Mason (he was also first overall) with a time of 15:46. “Of note: Both Evans girls — Brittany (age 16) and Megan (age 14) — broke the 59-minute barrier in their first race of this length,” Spannier said. “They may also be the youngest locals to ever complete in the 12 km road race.” The last interesting factoid Spannier provided was this: 15 of the 36 local runners in the 12 km road race finished among the top three of their age category.
