If you see Craig McKee these days he doubtless has a smile plastered across his face. Why? Because for twelve years running he has been organizing the city’s foremost shopping opportunities and if there’s anything he enjoys it’s the sight of people shopping ’til they drop.

Well, okay… maybe that’s an exaggeration. But he does love to see his little business promotions, like Saturday’s Super Sidewalk Sale, succeed.

“It helps keep people shopping here in town ,” the owner of Revelstoke Printing said Friday. “And that’s what it’s all about, really.”

McKee organizes not only the annual May Sidewalk Sale that helps set the scene for the May long weekend, but Moonlight Madness, Passport to Christmas and other events that encourage local people to patronize local businesses and that also encourage local businesses to cut deals for local people. And there are plenty of deals to be had this Saturday.

Just about every business in the downtown district has a sale. And there are plenty of other things going on, too.

There’s the Farmers Market, the Big Bike Event, a Pancake Breakfast at Coopers, burgers by Team Gloria at First and Orton and Beta Sigma Phi at Alpine Village Mall, art demonstrations in front Art First on First Street West, a Bike Rodeo in Grizzly Plaza, a Birthday Party at Castle Joe Books, a book signing at Grizzly Books and much, much more.

It’s almost like an excuse to spend your entire day downtown and shop ’til you drop. Come on out and do it!
