While common sense may dictate that you wouldn’t want to speed if you were transporting drugs, that doesn’t appear to be the case in this instance, says RCMP Cpl. Rod Wiebe.
“On April 23, police officers from the Revelstoke Detachment were conducting speed enforcement on Highway 1 East near Greely Road when a westbound Dodge Caravan was observed travelling in excess of the speed limit,” he said in a statement.
“The vehicle was pulled over and while the officer was talking to the driver he detected an odour of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The 59-year-old male driver from Kimberley was arrested and his vehicle searched. The search netted close to 3/4 of a pound of marijuana bud.”
The driver will appear in Revelstoke Provincial Court on Aug. 4 on a charge of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
