Revelstoke’s School District 19 will hold an open house to unveil the plans and an artist’s conception of the new elementary and high school, perhaps as early as next week.
The board decided at its regular meeting last Tuesday to hold the meeting in about mid-March.
It is currently in the process of finalizing its negotiations with the preferred design-build team for construction of the two schools.
“We anticipate being able to share all of the plans for the two schools, the NeighbourhoodS of Learning spaces, renderings and an overall site model to showcase the outstanding work that our design-build team has undertaken on behalf of students in our community,” Earl Woodhurst, district principal for operations and technology told the board.
The $56 million project is expected to begin this year. The new buildings are expected to be very green and a real showcase for the Neighbourhoods of Learning spaces. Revelstoke is the first community in the province to have these kinds of facilities.
In the meantime, the SD 19 Board Offices will be physically moved this year to a new location.
This will require board staff to temporarily operate out of empty classroom spaces in Mountain View Elementary School.
