Are you lonely? On a budget so tight you’re skipping breakfast? If either of those things apply to you then Connections Cafe may be the place you need to be on Tuesday mornings.
“We started the cafe as a way to help some people get a healthy meal and interact more with the community and so far it’s working,” says Melissa Jamieson, Community Connections’ housing outreach worker.
She said the cafe, located in the basement kitchen area of the agency, which is located at 314 Second Street East, offers people fruit, coffee, tea, toast and other breakfast staples.
“We try to mix up the food a little so there’s some variety instead of serving the same thing every Tuesday,” she said.
Jamieson said many of the people who are coming out to Connections Cafe need the nutritional boost the service provides and an opportunity to socialize with their peers.
Chris Cline likes coming down, not only for the pancakes that are sometimes on offer but “because you get to be with people who are in the same boat you’re in.”
