The proponents of 43 projects made their pitches to a packed meeting room at the Community Centre Tuesday. In all, they were seeking $569,350 from the Columbia Basin trust’s Community Initiatives Program. Unfortunately, only about $346,000 was available.
Well over 100 people attended the meeting and patiently listened to the various explanations over 2.5 hours. This year’s total requests were more than $200,000 above last year’s level, driven no doubt by the provincial government’s brutal cuts to Direct Access Gaming Grants.
