Grizzlies win the KIJHL Championship, move on to the provincials

By Steve Smith

I’m not going to sugar coat it… our Revelstoke Grizzlies are freakin’ amazing.

From the first time I met Coach Mick back on June 3, 2009 (We were volunteering at Tim Horton’s Camp Day), I knew this guy could bring the banner home! I’ve been trying to inform people all year how amazing this team is, imploring people to come out to the games and support them, and have preached all year how dedicated they are to the regimen that Coach Mick has laid out for them to follow. Now, they’ve got the banner for the KIJHL title and are moving on to the Cyclone Taylor Cup with a final score of 2-1 against the Nelson Leafs, capping off the series 4 games to 1.

There was no scoring in the first period and then the Leafs scored in the second period. However Brad Friedrich saved the day in the third with goals at 15:49 and then again at 8:20 with assists from, respectively, Lucas Blinkhorn and Josh McKissock

Our Grizzlies are going to be playing in the B.C. Provincial Junior B Hockey Championships with the 2010 host being the Oceanside Generals Hockey Club.

The game was absolutely incredible as I, and many Revelstokians, watched it on the webcast. It would have been outstanding to see Revelstoke win it all on home ice, but overall, they fought hard all year and deserved this!

Congratulations Grizzlies; Revelstoke and myself are incredibly proud of you. Coach Mick…thanks for believing in our city and delivering on EVERY promise you’ve made. Mike Roberts, you’ve done an unbelievable job working to bring top-notch quality hockey to Revelstoke.
