Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) is announcing $390,000 to launch the 2010 Summer Works Program, a Basin-wide wage subsidy program for small business and social enterprise to create up to 100 summer-student jobs in the region.
The program aims to encourage businesses to provide employment this summer for high school and post-secondary students by providing up to $8/hour in wage subsidies for entry level and career-related positions.
“CBT sees this program as strengthening the economic well-being of the Basin, while addressing a current market need,” said Neil Muth, CBT President and CEO. “The subsidies will assist businesses with increased staff during a time when resources are tight, as well as provide summer employment opportunities for students.”
CBT is partnering with College of the Rockies (COTR) to administer the program. The goal is to provide a quick turnaround on successful applications so businesses can move forward with hiring for this summer.
Applications for funding will be available on CBT’s website on March 22, 2010 and will be assessed on a first come, first served basis.
