Looking for a way to celebrate spring that’s truly different? Try Mile-High Ball Hockey this Sunday at 11 am courtesy of the Hockeyville Committee and Revelstoke Mountain Resort.

RMR has temed up with Revelstoke Hockeyville to offer people a chance to bring sticks, gloves, helmets and boots up the gondola on Mount Mackenzie for two games of ball hockey from 11 am until 1 pm on Sunday, March 7. It was originally going to be pond hockey but the temperatures are such that Steve Bailey, RMR’s director of skier services, can’t guarantee ice — even at high altitude.

So, it’ll be  ball hockey in the bracing mountain air. Regardless it’s still going to be a great way to spend part of your Sunday.

Lift tickets will be available at the Guest Services Desk at RMR. Everyone going up to play hockey will not be charged for their ride up the mountain and the committee hopes no one will try to pull a fast one by bringing both their stick and their skis or snowboard. You can’t have it both ways, amigos.

The resort will provide food and beverage service and Ray Speerbrecker is making a helicopter available for the video that both RMR and the committee want to produce of this unique event. This will be a great event for everyone to participate in so please come out and not only show your spirit and love of hockey but  have a great time, too.

Will it help Revelstoke joing the ranks of the Kraft Hockeyville Contest’s Top 12? I dunno. But it can’t hurt and it should be fun.

As for the Top 12, we’ll know on March 15 if Revelstoke is going to make it into the next round. The committee has its collective fingers crossed and is planning a party at the Regent Inn to mark this event. Win or lose it has been a great campaign and we hope to see as many of our supporters there as possible. The River City Pub will be for adults only while the Begbie Room will be available for families with children.

More details will follow this week.
