Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010: A state of the union address

To say that the last few weeks for everyone involved in the Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 bid has been an emotional rollercoaster would be a huge understatement. And while the Revelstoke Hockeyville Committee doesn't know if we'll be in the Top 12, local enthusiasm has not been dampened. To say that the last few weeks for everyone involved in the Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 bid has been an emotional rollercoaster would be a huge understatement.  The official story writing phase of the contest as come and gone and we placed well in the west, albeit a long way off from the 1,000-plus stories from The Hazeltons, yet we really knew that we had a great chance to continue with the competition.

On February 11,the rules stated that the Top 12 communities in Canada would be notified and our phone did not ring.  Our email did not come.  Our letter was not mailed.  In fact, since the end of January’s request from Hockeyville about our arena we’ve heard nothing from anyone.  So on February 12, 2010, the Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 committee were preparing for our final meeting as a group.

Then February 13 came.  We were notified that someone in Revelstoke might know the truth.  Someone in Revelstoke might know if we’re in.  However, they would not be allowed to tell us!  The way the game works is that someone who has contributed a story would be notified on behalf of the community to be a liaison with Kraft.  In secret!

Why might you ask would they do that?  Well I’ll tell you.  Ratings.  By doing it this way everyone involved in Hockeyville all across Canada will be tuned into the show on March 15, 2010 to find out if we truly are in the Top 12.

Doing it this way also guarantees that the heart rate of your Revelstoke Hockeyville Committee members will be skyrocketing.  We’re scrambling for some last-minute events and also planning a huge party at The Regent’s River City Pub on the night of March 15.  There will also be a fantastic family area.  More to come!

We’re also planning, with the cooperation of Revelstoke Mountain Resort, to hold the highest pond hockey game in Canada at the top of Mount Mackenzie tentatively booked for the first or second week in March!  Again stay tuned! Also check out the great Hockeyville displays at Coopers and Southside.

We’ll be holding a callout for volunteers soon and if you are available please email revelstokehockeyville@live.ca and let us know you can help us out because when we make the Top 12, we will have a ton of work to do!

We truly are working hard for everyone in Revelstoke to showcase why we love this community and why Canada needs to know that Revelstoke is amazing.  We believe in the competition and we believe in each and every one of you!
