Newly minted citizens

Revelstoke gained five brand-new Canadian citizens this month. Posing with a Mountie and Citizenship Judge Robert-Douglas Watt (second from the right) are Jason and Nicole Tucker (next to the Mountie), Gabriela Draboczi, Bex Reid-Parkin and (on the right) Chloe Kim. "The ceremony took place in Vernon, where there were 52 people from about 17 different countries becoming Canadians," said Reid-Parkin who is originally from New Zealand. She said she was eligible to become a citizen earlier in the year but put it off so so she could have her citizenship ceremony with her friend Gabriela, who was born in Hungary. The two friends then discovered that Chloe Kim, from South Korea, was becoming a citizen at the same time. When the three women arrived in Vernon for the ceremony, Gabriela recognized the Tuckers, who are originally from Australia, as being Revelstoke residents "We all felt it was rather special to become Canadian Citizens with other people from Revelstoke, and to have it take place two days before the opening of the winter Olympics," Reid-Parkin said.
