Local business briefly…

The Harmonized Sales Tax is six months away from implementation and, if its opponents have anything to say about it, may not even become law, but that doesn’t mean businesses shouldn’t be prepared.

Towards that end, the Canada Revenue Agency is offering a free two-hour information seminar that will be hosted by the Revelstoke Chamber of Commerce in the Macpherson Room of the Community Centre on Tuesday, March 9 at 6:30 pm. For more information please contact the Chamber at 250-837-5345.

The Revy Rail Jam, which attracts thousands of people downtown, is scheduled to be held March 13, but it needs a cash infusion to go ahead.

“Save the Rail Jam!” says EZ Rock DJ Steve Smith. “Without funding this amazing event won’t take place. I could be shamelessly promoting my own band, the Maritime Kitchen Party, but instead I’m promoting the Youth Battle of the Bands from 3-6 at the Last Drop as a Rail Jam fundraiser.”

Smith said the lineup for the Youth Battle of the Bands includes the Leslie Opatril Quartet, RSS Jazz Band, Super Cooper, Straw into Gold and The Blackbirds.

“Everyone should come on down and hear these kids play and help the Rail Jam,” Smith said.
