Affordable Housing Society to develop two rental properties on CPR Hill

By David F. Rooney

City Council has approved a land amalgamation and re-division on CPR Hill, thereby clearing the way for the development of two homes to be built by students enrolled in Okanagan College’s Residential Construction Program.

Council, meeting as a Committee of the Whole (CoW) on Tuesday, approved a recommendation from the Planning Department that six lots on Maple Street be combined then subdivided into three lots. Two lots of 550 square metres each will be the site of two rental properties the Housing Society wants to develop this year. The two lots will be leased by the City to the society for a period of 60 years. The third lot consists of Crown land and will not — at least for now — be developed. In the process, the intersection of Cedar Street and the Maple Street lane way will be realigned.

Work on the rental housing project is set to begin on April 19.
