Our Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday, Jan. 14. We had a fairly good turnout, and your 2010 Executive and Directors would like to encourage all members to attend our General Meetings on the 2nd Thursday of every month at 1:30 pm. It is your Centre, so please come out and have a say in the direction you wish to see it go over the next year.
During our AGM the proposed changes to our bylaws were unanimously approved, so please feel free to stop by and pick up your copy at the Centre. We also had the installation of your 2010 Executive/Director’s. A huge thank you to Elsie Jamieson for a fantastic job as Master of Ceremonies and also swearing in of the new Board.
There are a couple of changes to your monthly calendar of events and activities. They are as follows: Tonnie Aqua Fit program and the Seniors’ Toonie Fitness program at Trans Canada Fitness have been cancelled. Trans Canada Fitness does have a special rate for Seniors which is $6.30 per workout or $31.50 for a monthly pass taxes included. Sometime in the near future the Executive will be approaching Trans Canada Fitness to see if we can maybe workout another program for the Seniors. We have already spoken with the owner and he is receptive to discussing this issue.
Please don’t forget to renew your 2010 membership and please anyone who wishes to join please feel free to do so. We would love to have you join us. The cost of a membership for the year is $10. We look forward to seeing the seniors of Revelstoke join us in our events, activities and other programs.
Our next Monthly Birthday Party is Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 3 pm. The party will be followed by a workshop on Financial Awareness, Protection and Scams, so please plan on attending.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, we are having a Winter Pot Luck Dinner at the Seniors’ Centre. The cost is $7 per person unless you bring a dish for the pot luck. The sign-up sheet is posted and anyone who wishes to volunteer please put your phone number beside your name.
We are looking for baby and wedding pictures from seniors as we are working on another slideshow and will need to scan them into a computer to use them. Watch for the poster and your column for the date and time of this presentation.
Computer classes are soon set to start. If you are interested in learning about computers, the sign-up sheets are posted and there is still room in most of the classes.
We will be having a Valentine’s Day Tea on Saturday, Feb. 13. We will still need volunteers so please consider helping out.
Our next General Meeting is Thursday, Feb. 12, so please plan on attending and have your say in the direction you want your Seniors’ Center to go over the next year.
A reminder: if there is a specific topic, activity, event or special notice please feel free to contact me and I will due my best to accommodate you, as it is your column.
I want to thank the membership of the Seniors Centre for their continued confidence and support in reelecting me to my present position. I look forward to serving you for the year 2010 and representing the Senior’s of Revelstoke.
I look forward to seeing you all at the Seniors Centre during our activities and events in 2010.
