There are 2.93 metres of snow at the weather station, located at the 1,950-metre level, on Mount Mackenzie and that heralds a great start to the 2009-2010 ski season, says a statement from Revelstoke Mountain Resort.
“Do you want more good news?” the release asked. “RMR is also opening The Ripper Chair today, giving skiers and snowboarders access to almost double the terrain from last weekend.”
New terrain openings include Greely Bowl, all of North Bowl and access to the Sub Peak and terrain on the south side above Jalapeno, Hot Sauce and Roller Coaster. The south-side terrain will include a distinct ski area boundary line above the south side runs directing guests back to The Last Spike. All skiers and snowboarders are also asked to be aware of the ski area boundary and that RMR recommends that guests ski and ride with care as natural hazards do exist. No beginner terrain is open at this time, the statement said.
The Mid-Mountain Lodge and the Mackenzie Outpost are also open, offering treats, on-the-go snacks, meals and hot and cold beverages. The new Rockford Wok|Bar|Grill will also be opening in Nelsen Lodge before Christmas and a new retail shop at the base of the gondola will be open with an expanded product line, the statement said.
Cat skiing starts this weekend, as well. The first cat is scheduled to roll out on Sunday, Dec. 6. For more information on cat skiing the Revelstoke Outdoors Centre at 250-814-5060 or go online to http://www.revelstokemountainresort.com/ROC/Revelstoke-Outdoors-Centre.html.
