The changing nature of our local economy is prompting some people to come up with new ideas to meet the needs of out-of-town property owners.

Stoke Solutions is a brand-new enterprise with just that kind of focus. While it is owned by Ryan Corbett and Joel Chevrier, owners of Kelly’s Bobcat, Stoke Solutions is really in the hands of Miranda Murphy, a 23-year-old relative newcomer to Revelstoke from Ontario.

“We’re offering home-watch and concierge services to people who live elsewhere but who own property here,” she said in an interview this week.

The home-watch service is just what it sounds like: for a fee Stoke Solutions will check on your property in your absence, shovel the snow, check the oil in the furnace, mow the lawn and, in short, do just about everything required to make your home away from home look lived in.

It’s also important to do so from an insurance point of view, Murphy said.

“Most insurance companies require that a home be periodically checked to maintain valid insurance protection,” she said.

The concierge service will order the food, wine and other beverages you want. Murphy and her minions will stock the fridge, even put up a Christmas tree so when you arrive at your condo or vacation home everything you need will be in its proper place.

Murphy said she is working with local companies to provide everything from Free Trade-certified coffee to hand-made chocolates, baked goods and even complete meals. The local firms she is working with are: Stoke Roasted Coffee Company, Chocolate Summit, Mountain Goodness Natural Foods, Chalet Bakery, Mountain Meals and The Modern Bakery.

Murphy has developed a form posted on her website that clients can fill in and send to her. When they arrive in town to hit the slopes and enjoy the good life, everything they need is already done. Now that’s a solution.
