The Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Committee needs YOU

By David F. Rooney

The Revelstoke Hockeyville 2010 Committee needs you — yes, you — to support its bid to win the national contest by writing a story and posting it on the Kraft Hockeyville website.

“As of 8 am we’re leading pretty much from Manitoba-west with 15 stories on our Hockeyville page at http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/hockeyville/communities/bc/en/

,” Committee Chairman Gary McLaughlin said Friday.

“But when you hit Ontario though things look a lot different. Billy Gebbie Arena (North Glengarry) has 66 stories and Léo Crépin (Châteauguay) in Quebec has 101 stories. So the good news is we’re in third as best as I can see in the story part of the contest.  But we’re 51 behind Ontario and 86 behind Quebec.  And Kaslo is close behind us.”

For Revelstoke to proceed to the next level in Hockeyville contest it must demonstrate broad community support. And that means people must send in stories and pictures related to hockey and, more specifically, The Forum. The winning community will receive $100,000 in upgrades to its arena and will host an NHL exhibition game.

“On Nov. 28 we’re holding a story workshop at the Community Centre from 10 am until 2 pm where you can come in and get help with getting your story online,” McLaughlin said.

Committee members will be there with laptop computers and an image scanner to assist you in getting your stories online. So what should you write about? Almost anything that relates to local hockey culture and The Forum. They don’t have to be long but should not be promotional stories about a particular team. All stories must be accompanied by a photo. In fact, the story submission form will not be processed without one. If you don’t have a digital image to upload, please send your story to The Revelstoke Current at editor@revelstokecurrent.com and bring your photo to the Community Centre on Nov. 28. The committee will scan the image and help you send both your story and the image to the Hockeyville website.

If you aren’t sure about what you can write take a look at some of the stories that have already been posted. They will give you some idea of how you can help Revelstoke win this one.

McLaughlin also said that Dec. 5 will be HOCKEYVILLE NIGHT IN REVELSTOKE at the Revelstoke Forum.  He invites people to come to the game to support the Grizzlies… and Revelstoke’s Hockeyville campaign.
