The Visual Arts Centre is hosting the opening of another amazing show of local artistic power, Mountains, this Friday at 6 p.m.

The exhibition of 42 images promises to be a gorgeous take on mountain landscapes by 31 local artists, four of them new to The Centre. This is a fine mix of photography and painting with a touch of fabric and accents provided by ceramics from the Revelstoke Potters’ Guild.

The majority of the images on display are bold and powerful — just like the thrusting landscape that inspired them and Centre Director Jackie Pendergast is certain it will rank as one of the best that has been shown so far this year.

But the Mountains show is not the only exhibition that’s opening on Friday evening.

The North Columbia Environmental Society will be unveiling the 27 top images in their photo contest and will, at 7 p.m., announce the winners. The NCES will also be providing all of the appetizers for both shows, so do come and graze to your heart’s content.

And that’s not all, The Centre will also be exhibiting the Best of Banff 2009 Mountain Photography Show in the Sophie Atkinson Gallery. If you love the mountains, mountain culture, mountain people then The Revelstoke Visual Arts Centre will be the place to go on Friday evening.

Here are some — but not all — of the images you will see in the Mountains show:
