What a great weekend… how did YOU spend it?

What a terrific weekend! I know, I know — it wasn’t hot. But it did hit a high of 17° degrees and it didn’t snow as it almost seemed to be threatening to do early in the week. But the white stuff is coming. Like death or taxes, there is no avoiding it here. The Canadian Farmers’ Almanac tells us to expect periods of sun and rain all through October and then warns us to prepare for the worst. “Numb’s the word!” is how the 192-year-old publication is predicting the upcoming winter season. Meanwhile, let’s enjoy the mid-teen temperatures the Weather Network is predicting for most of the next two weeks. (Click here: www.theweathernetwork.com/fourteenday/cabc0247 to see our current weather.)

So, how did you spend the fine weather? Were you indoors doing housework — I hope not! — or did you get out and either go for a stroll, do some yard work or play in the sunshine?

Here’s what some of your friends and neighbours were up to:

The great weekend weather sent all kinds of people outdoors. Some enjoyed their gardens or gathered fruit. This man was caught on camera — from a distance! — with a parasail at Centennial Park. David F. Rooney photo

Picking fruit was light duty compared to piling a trailer full of firewood as (from left to right) Jacob Babak and Max, Rocky and Dylan Kampman did during the early part of Sunday afternoon. David F. Rooney photo

The warm sunshine was great, too, if you were working with some kind of odoriferous material, like the acrylic-latex stain David Hawthorne applied to the log butts he was using to edge his driveway. "I though it would be easy but it's getting to be a big job," he laughed. "It's a labour of love, I guess." David F. Rooney photo
