Murray William Shevkenek passed away at home with his family by his side on Monday, October 5th, 2009 at the age of 58 years.

Following cremation a Celebration of Murray’s Life is to be held at the Fellowship Baptist Church, Revelstoke on Saturday morning, October 10th, 2009 with Pastor Dave Olson officiating. Flowers are acceptable, or memorial contributions may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1633 Pandosy Street, Kelowna, B.C. V1Y 1P6.

Murray came to Revelstoke in 1980 and will be remembered as a well respected restaurateur and entrepreneur.  He was a mentor to many and loved to teach others.  He was active with the ABC Restaurant and Smitty’s as well as a well known satellite TV installer.  Over the years Murray was very active with his church and loved his time in the mission field with YWAM.  He loved to fly and enjoyed the time spent in his Ultralight or paragliding.  Murray was a great conversationalist and was happy when he could spend time chatting one-on-one with others. He loved to attend trade shows and have conversations with those interested in his products.  In his last few months, Murray looked forward to his trips to Cooper’s where he could be found visiting with others.  Above all Murray had an incredible love for his wife Linda and his entire family, it was the time spent with them that made him the happiest.

Murray was predeceased by first wife Marilyn in 1988. He is survived by his wife, Linda of Revelstoke; four children: Elisa (Jacob) Martens of Kelowna, Michael Shevkenek of Revelstoke, Jessica (Justin) McKelvey of Estevan, Sask., Randal Walmsley of Revelstoke; four grandchildren: Milliana Martens, Malahkai Martens, Jailin McKelvey and Justus McKelvey; mother Margaret Shevkenek of Calgary; siblings: Alan (Vi) Shevkenek of Yellowknife, NWT, Patricia (Harley) Torgerson of Calgary, Bryan (Bev) Shevkenek of Calgary, Lynn (John) Moerschbacher, Ted (Tina) Shevkenek of Fort St. John and Mark (Connie) Shevkenek of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
