A little earth, a little fire and voila! Ceramic exhibition opens tonight

By David F. Rooney

The Visual Arts Centre’s latest exhibition, Earth and Fire, opens tonight at 6 p.m. in conjunction with Across the Board, a showing of personal favourites collected over the years by members of The Centre’s board of directors.

There are some fantastic potters in this city and patrons who go to tonight’s opening will have plenty of works to enjoy by ceramicists like Nancy Geismar, Sandra Flood, Catherine Mather and other members of the Revelstoke Potters’ Guild.

Guild members have proven over the years that they can offer a true feast for the senses and it will be interesting to see what they plan on offering to Revelstoke art lovers this fall.

While their work dominates The Centre’s main gallery, the side galleries are filled with works drawn from the collections of board of directors. There are a few surprises in this bright and interesting selection of works by artists known both locally and nationally.

The exhibitions open tonight at 6 p.m. and are on display until Sept. 25.
