A few hours of your time could make an enormous difference two projects here at home or abroad.
The Revelstoke Child Care Society is appealing for interested individuals willing to donate five hours of their time to help them host children’s events during the 2009 Revelstoke Homecoming, which will be held later this month.
“For each person who volunteers five hours of their time to the Homecoming Children’s Events, the Child Care Society will receive $50 to enhance the green space at Beruschi park,” says a statement from the society.
The grant money is being provided through the BC 150 Volunteer Incentive Grant program. The money will be used to defray the cost of installing a new play structure and an enchanting garden devoted to native plants and wild flowers, it said.
The City, the Early Childhood Development Committee, the North Columbia Environmental Society and the Child Care Society are all interested in re-developing Beruschi Park, the statement said.
Anyone interested in helping make this worthy project become a reality is encouraged to call the society at 250-837-6669.
In another — unrelated — appeal for volunteers, Jane McNab is calling on individuals interested in helping poor people abroad through the donation of just two hours of time a week.
“Can you spare a couple of hours a week to volunteer for Partners for Others?” she asked in an e-mail appeal that is making the rounds here in town. “This is the organisation set up by Ray and Jackie Brosseuk to help people in several southern African countries and Fiji. We are looking for help on Thursday mornings between 9-12 to fold and bale clothes so they can be shipped overseas.”
McNab said “the work is simple and the group is fun” and you can pretty much make your own hours.
“We meet in the old M&T Fabricators building just over the bridge in the Big Eddy,” McNab said.
