Pre-empt that “Mom-I’m-bored” whine

Fearful of hearing that whine, “Mom, I’m bored — there’s nothing to do,” this summer? You can pre-empt that by enrolling your pre-teen kids aged 10-13 in the brand-new Community Connections Pre-Teen Camps.

Every week this summer has a theme. For instance, this week is Adventure Week with a wilderness exploration on Mount Revelstoke, adventures in Martha Creek and a trip to the beach and hot springs at Nakusp. Next week is Sports Week, featuring bike rides, Ultimate Frisby, self-defence training, boating and a hip hop dance. The week after that is Art Week with pottery, silk painting, scrap-booking, Yoga, hemp-beading and a great community art project. And the week after that is Culinary Arts Week with… well, you get the idea.

The activities offered are proven attention-holders that take advantage of the great outdoors but local artists, scientists, expert craftspeople and other adults in Revelstoke.

None of this is free, of course. Each five-day program costs $100 but consider it money extremely well-spent.
