The District Hospital Foundation’s Hospital Helipad Project soared in the stratosphere with the revelation that it has already raised about $300,000 of the $465,000 it needs to to build the helipad at Queen Victoria Hospital.

Project Co-Chairman Steven Hui dropped that amazing total during the official launch of the fundraising campaign in the foyer of QVH on Monday morning, November 14.

During the official campaign launch at he named some of the many people who stepped up with major donations. They include:

  • The Revelstoke Community Forest Corporation — $15,000;
  • Canadian Mountain Holidays — $7,500;
  • Revelstoke Mountain Resort — $10,000;
  • The Gorman family through Downie Timber — $25,000;
  • Eagle Pass Heliskiing — $5,000;
  • Mica Heliskiing — $5,000;
  • The Regent Hotel — $5,000;
  • The Revekstoke Hospital Auxiliary — $50,000; and
  • The Revelstoke Credit Union — $100,000.

In addition, an additional $1,350 have been raised through the project’s online go-fund-me page. And there have been about $40,000 in in-kind contributions. Hui declined to name those individuals or companies.

$300,000 is an awful lot of money, but the project still needs to find $165,000.

Here are a few photos from the launch:

How's that for an eye-popping total on the cheque held by Cheryl Fry? Every year, the Hospital Auxiliary donates hundreds of thousands of dollars to purchase new — and unbudgeted — equioment for QVH. Most of that money comes through its operation of the very popular Thrisft Store at Second Street and Boyle Avenue. David F. Rooney photo

The Revestoke Credit Union's Roberta Bobicki and Director John Teed were very happy to donate a very, very generous $100,000. "This is a hugely, hugely important project," Roberta said, adding that this donation is outside the credit union's normal community giving. David F. Rooney photo

Here's another view of the cake, which was produced by Pip & Dex Custom Cakes and Cupcakery’s Dayna VanOverbeke. And, yes, it was as mouthwateringly delicious as you think. David F. Rooney photo
